The National Center for Excellence in Metalworking Technology (NCEMT) is a national resource for the improvement of the technical and competitive posture of the United States of America's civil-military industrial base through effective transition of leading edge technologies for the application of conventional and advanced materials in Department of Defense (DOD) and commercial engineering systems. NCEMT activities are focused on casting technology, forming technology, joining technology, powder metallurgy & ceramic materials, and surface treatment. The advanced tools used to support these activities include concurrent engineering, product analysis, process modeling, advanced materials testing and materials characterization, expert systems, intelligent processing of materials, systems integration, and demonstration facilities for welding, machining and cutting, forming, semi-solid metalworking (SSM), wire drawing of high temperature superconductors, and powder metallurgy processes.
